GUEST: Shahid Buttar, Director of Grassroots Advocacy at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, former Executive Director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee.
In an online discussion on Reddit this week, NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden had this to say about a bill being considered by Congress: The Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), “isn’t a cybersecurity bill…It’s not going to stop any attacks. It’s not going to make us any safer. It’s a surveillance bill. What it allows is for the companies you interact with every day — visibly, like Facebook, or invisibly, like AT&T — to indiscriminately share private records about your interactions and activities with the government.”
The fact that CISA is co-sponsored by California Senator Dianne Feinstein should be enough cause for concern – Feinstein has long defended government overreach and mass surveillance.
For our LA listeners, on Wednesday October 28th, there will be an Electronic Frontier Foundation event at the First Unitarian Church in Los Angeles at 7 pm.
