Five Years After Egypt’s Revolution, Echoes of Mubarak’s Repression Returns

Monday January 25th marked the fifth anniversary of a revolution in Egypt that shook the world. Mass protests against long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak prompted the Egyptian national army to take over the country that had been a central source of inspiration to Arab Spring movements.

But now, over the past 5 years, many feel the revolution was the beginning of yet another betrayal. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has resurrected many of the worst repressive measures under Mubarak, and some, like my guest, say a new revolution is in order.
