The South Coast Air Quality Management District announced this week that it is suing the Southern California Gas Company over a massive and devastating methane gas leak in Porter Ranch, Southern California. The well, which has been leaking since late October, is spewing not just the highly heat-trapping methane, but a strong-smelling additive that is likely causing the slew of health problems among residents. Thousands of people have been evacuated from the area. The AQMD suit is seeking a quarter of a million dollars in damages per day that the leak is active.
