Advertising her one-woman performance, local artist Monica Palacios, invites you to “Enjoy an evening of wholesome lesbo raunch and experience righteous rants of nationality, sexuality and middle age flab.” With a resume that boasts such solo shows as “Latin Lezbo Comic,” “My Body and Other Parts,” and “A Sexplosion of Tantalizing Tales,” as well as plays like “Sweet Peace,” Palacios has turned heavy topics of race and gender into honest, unadulterated comedy. The Los Angeles based Chicana writer and performer has won numerous awards for increasing Latina visibility on the stage. She is currently the Artist-in-Residence at Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble in Santa Ana. The updated version of her well-known solo piece, “Greetings from a Queer Señorita,” premiered in Orange County last Friday where it will continue until August 3rd. In telling the OC Weekly what audiences should expect, Palacios says, “They’re going to be doubled over in laughter… It’s me, the storyteller, and the things I usually deal with: culture, food, chicks and revolution.”
Greetings from a Queer Señorita is showing at Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble, 310 W 5th Street (2nd floor), in Santa Ana, CA 92701. For reservations, call 714-540-1157, or visit www.breathoffire.org.
