GUEST: Lila Zanganeh, editor of “My Sister, Guard Your Veil; My Brother, Guard Your Eyes : Uncensored Iranian Voices”
Reports of an impending US attack on Iran are all over the news these days, despite the Bush administration’s misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan. In just the past few days there have been lengthy articles in various publications such as the Washington Post, the London Sunday Times, The New Yorker, and The Forward, which is a prominent weekly newspaper serving the US Jewish community. The reports detail plans for aerial attacks on as many as 400 nuclear and military targets. What’s missing in the discourse, are Iranian voices. According to my guest, Lila Zanganeh, “there are those who believe, at times too hastily, that Iran is at core a Western-loving nation that can hardly wait for America to save it from its own bloodthirsty leaders. And there are those who are convinced that Iran, by and large, is a nation of Allah-worshipping, gun-toting terrorists.”
The first Israeli-Palestinian peace talks of the Obama administration are set to begin – we’ll look at what’s in store.
