President-elect Barack Obama announced the names of his Energy Secretary and other members of his environmental team yesterday: A Nobel-prize winning Physicist Steven Chu is Obama’s choice for Secretary of Energy. Chu specializes in carbon-neutral energy sources and currently heads the Berkeley National Laboratory. Carol Browner, a former Clintonite, is to be Obama’s energy coordinator. Browner served as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA under President Bill Clinton — her new position involves overseeing a range of issues involving energy, climate, and the environment, including the creation of so-called “green jobs” often touted by Obama as the way forward on the economy and environment. Finally, for head of the EPA, Obama has picked Lisa Jackson, the former head of New Jersey’s state EPA. Obama has also selected Nancy Sutley, a deputy mayor of Los Angeles, and his first openly gay cabinet member, to lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
GUEST: Felicia Marcus, former EPA Administrator to California, Western Director of the Natural Resources Defense Council. For more information, visit www.nrdc.org.
