What is podcasting?

Podcasting is a term coined in 2004 when the use of RSS syndication technologies became popular for distributing audio content for listening on mobile devices and personal computers.

A podcast is a web feed of audio or video files placed on the Internet for anyone to subscribe to. Podcasters’ websites also may offer direct download of their files, but the subscription feed of automatically delivered new content is what distinguishes a podcast from a simple download or real-time streaming.

How Do I Get Uprising’s Podcast?

All you really need is a computer and access to the internet in order to get Uprising’s podcast (it’s free!). Next, you need to install a podcast program (see below).

Then you have to subscribe to the Uprising podcast feed (see below). When a new show is uploaded each week, the podcasting software will automatically start downloading the MP3 file to a directory so that it’s on your computer whenever you want to listen to it.

If you have a portable MP3 player (such as an iPod), you can listen to the program whereever you want!

1. Install a podcast program — The two most popular free programs are:
   • iPodder (newly renamed “Juice“) At the moment, this is one of the most popular solutions for receiving Podcast feeds. Free Software – Platforms: Windows, Mac and Linux. Download it here.
   • iTunes. This is Apple’s flagship music-playing program. You will need Version 4.9 or later to receive podcasts. Free Software – Platforms: Windows, Mac. Download it here.
2. Subscribe to Uprising —
   • On Ipodder/Juice
     – Click on the “Subscriptions” tab.
     – Click on the “add new feed” button (it looks like a plus sign).
     – When it asks for the URL, copy and paste the following link: http://uprising.libsyn.com/rss.
     – Hit “Save”. You are now subscribed to Uprising.
     – Click on the “check/download selected feed” button (it looks like a drop-down arrow) to begin downloading the latest show.

     Each week, Ipodder will automatically download the latest edition of Uprising when you open the program. You can also listen to older programs if you wish.

   • On Itunes
     – Click on the “Advanced” Menu Item (on the top)
     – Select “Subscribe to Podcast”
     – When it asks for the URL, copy and paste the following link: http://uprising.libsyn.com/rss.
     – Hit “OK”. You are now subscribed to Uprising.
     – Itunes will automatically begin downloading the latest program.

     Each week, Itunes will automatically download the latest edition of Uprising when you open the program. You can also listen to older programs if you wish.
