About 4.4 million years ago, the female hominid weighing about 110 pounds and standing about 4 feet tall, roamed the forests of what is now Ethiopia. She has been nicknamed Ardi, short for Ardipithecus ramidus and is 1\/2 million years older than Lucy, the previously oldest skeleton of a human ancestor. A Harvard paleo-anthropologist called Ardi &#8220;one of the most important discoveries for the study of human evolution&#8221; as it provides yet another crucial link in the theory that humans evolved to our present state after branching off from apes. And it is yet another piece of irrefutable evidence, alongside thousands of other pieces of evidence, that supports the essence of Charles Darwin&#8217;s theory of evolution. The find of the 4.4 million year old skeleton comes at an apt moment. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication The Origin of Species, the seminal work by Darwin. The theory of Natural Selection, by which species of living creatures evolve to adapt to their surroundings, is supported by evidence everywhere we look: fossils, carbon dating, gene mapping, animal domestication, plant breeding, paleontological digs, and simply the enormous similarities among species and across species. <\/p>\n<p>But, despite the decades of scientific literature that has confirmed Darwin&#8217;s theory, and tweaked and improved on it, a shockingly large percentage of people, especially Americans, resolutely refuse to accept it. In time for the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin&#8217;s Origin of Species, a major Christian ministry is publishing an edition of the book that features an introduction rebutting the theory of evolution and making the case for intelligent design.
