Rush Limbaugh’s attempt to buy the NFL’s St. Louis Rams has created controversy and consternation among everyone from the NFL Players Union to Rev. Al Sharpton. The conservative radio talk show host was interested in a franchise estimated at a value of $929 million. The primary reason for the opposition to his purchase is the “shock jock’s” often racist comments on his syndicated radio show – comments that seem to have increased in frequency and intensity since President Obama\u2019s election. Last week Limbaugh’s ownership group, headed by St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts issued a statement removing Limbaugh from their bid, saying, “It has become clear that his involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions; endangering our bid to keep the team in St. Louis.” What the debate reveals is not so much the ownership of a football team, but questions about Rush Limbaugh’s on-air diatribes and misinformation. A recent article in Media Matters for America entitled “Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh Are Crazy — Yet Corporate Media Legitimize Them” asserts that \u201conce you accept someone like Glenn Beck [or Rush Limbaugh] as a legitimate media figure, it skews your view of the rest of the media”.<\/p>\n
