Selecting six activists who are emerging community organizers, the foundation chose those who are on the frontlines of some of the most pressing issues facing the city such as education, labor, marriage equality and housing. The inaugural honorees for this year are Sentayehu Silassie, Hamid Khan, Reverend Eric Lee, Maria Brenes, Chris Gabriele and Amy Schur. Liberty Hill\u2019s CEO Kafi D. Blumefield described the six leaders as \u201csmart, strategic, resilient, and tireless.\u201d The foundation hopes that shining the spotlight on their efforts will raise awareness of the challenges that are most pressing in Los Angeles while inspiring the best ways to organize around them.
