Whitman faces off against Steve Poizner in the Republican primary in June but looks set to easily beat him. However, the California billionairess and former CEO of eBay, has no political record and has spent tens of millions of dollars of her own money for several months to achieve name recognition. While she has revealed few details of her political platform, a few things are public: Whitman is in favor of the death penalty and three strikes law, supports building new prisons and opposes early release of prisoners. She also opposes gun control, and any form of marijuana legalization. Her likely rival this November, Jerry Brown, is a seasoned politician, having served as California governor from 1975 to 1983, as well as State Secretary, Mayor of Oakland, and currently state Attorney General.
