The singer-songwriter had been booked on the highly rated television program ahead of the release of his second album, \u201cThe Freewheelin\u2019 Bob Dylan.\u201d He rehearsed and planned on performing his song, \u201cTalkin\u2019 John Birch Paranoid Blues,\u201d when CBS network censors suggested he change his tune \u2013 literally. Dylan\u2019s selection poked fun at the conservative John Birch Society and its insistence on communist conspiracies with the lyrics of the song singing, \u201cI wus lookin\u2019 high an\u2019 low for them Reds everywhere \/ I wus lookin\u2019 in the sink an\u2019 underneath the chair \/ I looked way up my chimney hole\/ I even looked deep down inside my toilet bowl.\u201d Rather than acquiesce to the censors\u2019 objections and perform another song, Dylan simply decided walk out of The Ed Sullivan Show altogether.<\/p>\n
