Harney was a well known spokesperson who traveled the globe educating people about the dangers of nuclear weapons and the effects of their proliferation on the environment. He addressed the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The Western Shoshone homeland, which spans five states including California, is where the U.S. government tested and exploded nuclear bombs. Corbin opposed the dumping of radioactive waste on indigenous lands, and its degradation of the environment and people. As someone who helped bridge indigenous peoples and environmental groups, Harney received numerous national and international awards.
