In honor of the women\u2019s suffrage movement, a commemorative parade will take place in the state capitol later this month. Inspired by the 1913 suffrage parade on the nation\u2019s capitol, statewide organizers will be gathering to reaffirm women\u2019s right to vote. After a long and dedicated struggle, women in the United States gained the right to vote after the constitution was amended on August 26th, 1920. The second annual women\u2019s equality parade and rally will take place on Saturday August 25th, to not only look to the past, but struggle onward towards the future. Activists and organizers cite the fact that in the last presidential election, which was important in many ways to women’s issues, twenty-two million single women did not exercise their right to vote. In response, the theme for this year\u2019s parade is \u201cOur Voice Equals Our Vote,\u201d and will bring together various organizations from labor, environment and social justice movements. The coalition for California\u2019s second annual Women\u2019s Equality Day parade is calling for women, girls and their supporters statewide to join in on the celebration festivities. <\/p>\n![](\"http:\/\/www.womenequalityparade.com\/Images\/2006_parade\/0026.jpg\"\/)
