Among the many who suffered such a fate was acclaimed singer-poet Victor Jara. By dedicating his songs to the campaigns of the disposed socialist president, Salvador Allende, Jara became a prime target of the new regime. The musician endured days of torture before being ruthlessly machine-gunned to death weeks before his forty-first birthday. Had Victor Jara not been murdered, this Friday, September 28th would have marked his 75th birthday. Locally, a concert will take place at Sol Art Gallery Caf\u00e9 in Santa Ana to honor the fallen musician\u2019s legacy. Musical performances will follow the screening of the documentary El Derecho de Vivir en Paz,\u201d about Victor Jara\u2019s life. Pilar Diaz, who sings for the energetic bilingual group Los Abandoned, will headline the event with a special solo performance accompanied by her father Jaime Gerardo Diaz.<\/p>\n<p>El Derecho de Vivir en Paz<br \/>\nFriday, September 28th, 7:30 p.m.<br \/>\nDocumentary screening at 7:30 p.m.<br \/>\nFollowed by music performances:<br \/>\nPilar Diaz, Taller Sur, Los Hijos de la Tierra<br \/>\nSol Art Gallery Cafe<br \/>\n511 E.
