Che: Rise and Fall<\/strong><\/p>\nToday marks the fortieth anniversary of the execution of Ernesto \u201cChe\u201d Guevara. The Argentine-born revolutionary was leading a guerrilla campaign in Bolivia forty years ago as part of his tri-continental strategy against the forces of imperialism. His career as a revolutionary came to an end when he was captured on October 8, 1967 by the Bolivian army with the assistance of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. The following day, Che Guevara was executed in the town of La Higuera. Che was born in Rosario, Argentina on June 14th, 1928. After studying medicine as a young man, Che took transformative trips around South America \u2013 and upon completing his studies, he once again traveled, only to find himself in the midst of the progressive government of Jacobo Arbenz in Guatemala. Toppled in 1954 by U.S. backed forces, Che fled from Guatemala to Mexico. It was there were he met with Cuban conspirators, including Fidel Castro, planning to overthrow the Batista dictatorship. After successfully participating in the Cuban revolution as a Comandante, Che went on first to the Congo and then Bolivia to spread armed rebellion. In the four decades that have followed his death, Che has endured as a symbol of struggle in an unjust world. <\/p>\n
