While all other countries outside the U.S. prohibit themselves from imprisoning youth for life, many states including California have no problem locking minors up until they die. Nation wide there are more than 2,500 people locked up who were convicted of crimes under the age of 18 and will never experience freedom. California imprisons more than a tenth of those people. California lawmakers now have the chance to vote on a bill that would allow those imprisoned as juveniles for life without parole to have their sentences reviewed based on behavior, potential for rehabilitation, and more. The law was first introduced at SB 399 when it passed the California Senate and failed the Assembly by only two votes. With overwhelming public support in favor of such a law, there is a good chance it could pass both State houses this time around. <\/p>\n
