Earlier this year longtime Congresswoman Jane Harman unexpectedly resigned from the post to join a Washington D.C. think tank. Challengers immediately threw their hats into the ring, and after months of campaigning three women have risen to the top. They are: teacher and former candidate Marcy Winograd, LA City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, and Secretary of State Debra Bowen. Hahn, currently favored to win according to the LA Times, is the daughter of former LA County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn and sibling of former LA Mayor James K. Hahn. Bowen and Hahn have more money and prominence backing their campaigns, but the third candidate, Marcy Winograd, remains strong. Winograd challenged Jane Harman in the Democratic primary for the seat in 2006 and 2010. Last year she garnered 41% of the vote, not enough to win but enough to prove she is a formidable opponent.
