\u201cVexing: Female Voices from East L.A. Punk,\u201d is a new multimedia exhibit opening this weekend that showcases the history of Chicanas on the music scene. Taking place at the Claremont Museum of Art, the show, which runs through August 31st, features photographs, listening stations, documentary excerpts and vintage concert footage. Taking its name from \u201cThe Vex,\u201d an all-ages club once hosted by Self Help Graphics in East Los Angeles, the exhibit\u2019s participants include influential musicians, artists and photographers who have helped document and define the scene. Co-curated by Pilar Tompkins and Colin Gunckel, \u201cVexing,\u201d seeks to highlight the often overlooked contributions Chicanas made in East L.A. punk and how the music situated itself within the overall punk scene in the city at large. The exhibit opens this Saturday with special music performances by Alice Bag, Teresa Covarrubias, Lysa Flores and Angela Vogel. The show will close with a concert featuring a new generation of female rockers Go Betty Go and The Sirens. <\/p>\n Vexing is showing from May 18-August 31, opening reception on Saturday May 17, 7 p.m., museum member preview at 6 p.m. The Claremont Museum of Art is located in the Packing House, 536 West First Street, Claremont, CA 91711.
