On August 18th, 1977, the founder of the Black Consciousness Movement was apprehended at a police roadblock under the apartheid regime\u2019s Terrorism Act. While in police custody, Biko, who helped organize protests that culminated in the Soweto Uprising of 1976, sustained a major head injury during interrogations. He would later die as a result of brain damage. Police initially claimed Biko\u2019s death to be caused by the health effects of a hunger strike. However, in 1997, five former South African security officers admitting to killing Biko in the Truth and Reconciliation Report. Despite their admission, no one has been held accountable for the murder.<\/p>\n<p>Death by hunger strike by way of head injury?
