On August 19th, 1692, a clergyman, a woman and three other men were put to death in Salem, Massachusetts after being found guilty of \u201cwitchcraft.\u201d As a result of the religious fanatic witch hunts, 19 people in all \u2013 14 of them women \u2013 were hanged. Legal procedures used during the trials included spectral evidence and touch tests. Under touch tests, a blindfolded person accused of witchcraft would lay their hands upon an alleged victim and the victim\u2019s illness somehow ceased, then the accused could be found guilty.
