On August 25th, 1968 a turbulent week of convention protests began with two marches and rallies in two parks. The Youth International Party, or the Yippies, staged a Festival of Life concert   organized at Lincoln Park but by 11 p.m. a curfew imposed by Chicago Mayor Daley&#8217;s police was enforced and staying true to their unofficial motto of &#8220;we be clubbin!&#8221; the police cleared the park and pursued the majority of demonstrators who had already taken their protests to the streets. Many anti-war activists were injured in the ensuing violence as were 17 members of the press. <\/p>\n<p>As this year&#8217;s Democratic National Convention is underway in the mile high city, protesters seeking to recreate the spirit of &#8217;68 have to contend with a so-called free speech zone lined with fencing.
