On August 26th, 1920, the thirty-nine words of the amendment that enfranchised women across the nation had its thirty-six state ratification certified. In the end, it took a \u201cWar of the Roses\u201d in the Tennessee State Legislature to secure by one vote the final state needed to sign onto the long sought after objective of the women\u2019s suffrage movement.  The right to vote, however, was not enough for some prominent leaders in the women\u2019s movement. Socialist Helen Keller wrote years before the 19th amendment that, \u201cWe vote? What does that mean? We choose between Tweedledum and Tweedledee.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>But why did it take so long to secure this basic right? Hadn&#8217;t women \u201csuffraged\u201d enough?
