{"id":30390,"date":"2012-06-28T10:03:23","date_gmt":"2012-06-28T17:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/?p=30390"},"modified":"2012-06-28T10:03:23","modified_gmt":"2012-06-28T17:03:23","slug":"reuters-supreme-court-upholds-key-obama-healthcare-centerpiece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/2012\/06\/28\/reuters-supreme-court-upholds-key-obama-healthcare-centerpiece\/","title":{"rendered":"Reuters: Supreme Court upholds key Obama healthcare centerpiece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the centerpiece of President Barack Obama&#8217;s signature healthcare overhaul law requiring that most Americans get insurance by 2014 or pay a financial penalty, a historic ruling that gave the White House a big win ahead of Obama&#8217;s re-election bid in November.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Affordable Care Act&#8217;s requirement that certain individuals pay a financial penalty for not obtaining health insurance may reasonably be characterized as a tax,&#8221; Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court&#8217;s majority.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Because the Constitution permits such a tax, it is not our role to forbid it, or to pass upon its wisdom or fairness,&#8221; he concluded.
