KPFK Radio will broadcast a live debate between Chris Hedges, Pulitzer Prize winning author and Dinesh D\u2019Souza the director of the new film called 2016: Obama\u2019s America on Tuesday September 18th from 8 to 9 am PST. The debate will be featured on KPFK\u2019s popular morning drive-time show, Uprising, moderated by host Sonali Kolhatkar. <\/p>\n
D\u2019souza\u2019s film is based on his 2010 book, The Roots of Obama\u2019s Rage, which makes the case that President Obama is influenced by his Kenyan father\u2019s political background, and that his policies today are driven by radical anti-colonial sentiments. 2016: Obama\u2019s America has grossed more than $26 million since its September 9th release, and is playing on 2000 screens nationwide. <\/p>\n
President Obama\u2019s reelection campaign has responded, calling the film \u201cnothing more than an insidious attempt to dishonestly smear the President by giving intellectual cover to the worst in subterranean conspiracy theories and false, partisan attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Award winning veteran journalist, foreign correspondent and best-selling author Chris Hedges will debate D\u2019Souza on the topic of his documentary and Obama\u2019s policies. Hedges won a Pulitzer prize for his reporting on global terrorism at the New York Times in 2002. He served as a war correspondent for nearly 20 years and is currently a senior fellow at The Nation Institute and a columnist at Truthdig.com. His most recent book, Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt with cartoonist Joe Sacco, is a piercing account of unregulated capitalism.
