{"id":31709,"date":"2012-10-05T10:22:03","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T17:22:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/?p=31709"},"modified":"2012-10-05T10:22:03","modified_gmt":"2012-10-05T17:22:03","slug":"anglo-american-platinum-fires-12000-striking-south-african-miners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/2012\/10\/05\/anglo-american-platinum-fires-12000-striking-south-african-miners\/","title":{"rendered":"Anglo American Platinum fires 12,000 striking South African miners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anglo American Platinum fired 12,000 striking miners Friday for staging an unlawful strike that is one of several that are slowly paralyzing South Africa\u2019s crucial mining sector.<\/p>\n<p>About 80,000 miners, representing 16 percent of the country\u2019s mine workforce, are currently striking in a wave of wildcat work stoppages that have serious economic and political implications for South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Strike leader Gaddafi Mdoda, a mineworker at Anglo American Platinum, or Amplats, said he was one of the workers who received emails or SMS messages telling them they had been dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings are bad here,\u201d Mdoda said.
