The latest poll figures indicate that Proposition 8 would fail with a growing majority of 55% of likely voters saying they would vote against the ban. The increased opposition over the past two months has coincided with the state Attorney General\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s rewording of the initiative\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s language in the wake of the California Supreme Court\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision to allow same-sex marriage. The original description was a measure that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153amends the California Constitution to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d But this July, Jerry Brown rewrote the summary definition of Proposition 8 to state that it \u00e2\u20ac\u0153eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d A lawsuit was immediately filed against the rewording. However a California Superior Court ruled in favor of the state Attorney General.
