{"id":34560,"date":"2013-03-19T08:44:11","date_gmt":"2013-03-19T15:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/?p=34560"},"modified":"2013-03-19T08:44:11","modified_gmt":"2013-03-19T15:44:11","slug":"cbs-immigration-reporting-repeal-advances-in-colorado","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/2013\/03\/19\/cbs-immigration-reporting-repeal-advances-in-colorado\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS: Immigration Reporting Repeal Advances In Colorado"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER (AP\/CBS4) \u2013 A Colorado House panel voted Monday to scrap a divisive 2006 law requiring Colorado police to report suspected illegal immigrants to federal authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The 9-2 vote came amid complaints that it isn\u2019t needed in an era of increased federal immigration enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRequiring local public safety agencies to act as federal immigration agents is a drain on resources and community trust,\u201d said Rep. Joe Salazar, D-Denver, who is pushing to repeal the law and has the support of law enforcement in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement officials testified that the Colorado law has been made redundant Secure Communities, a federal program that uses fingerprints collected in jails to identify illegal immigrants who have been arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the interest of government efficiency, we should get rid of the current system,\u201d said Greenwood Village Police Chief John Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>The system has been criticized for being counterproductive and creating extra paperwork.
