California\u2019s inmate population is taking a stand once more, with the launch of a new hunger strike today. Thousands of inmates are expected to refuse food two years after similar efforts that made history. This time, prisoners in the general population are reportedly stopping work in solidarity. Those housed in the state\u2019s Secure Housing Units, or SHUs, are demanding an end to the practice of endless solitary confinement, and the practice of so-called prisoner de-briefing, among other things. The question is, will this latest strike budge Governor Jerry Brown, who has dug his heels in defiance of US Supreme Court judges to maintain current prison conditions? <\/p>\n
