On October 9th, 1967, with orders coming from President Rene Barrientos, Guevara was executed in a schoolhouse in La Higuera by Bolivian army sergeant Mario Teran. The guerrilla leader had been captured the day before effectively ending his attempt to foment armed revolution in the South American nation. Guevara\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s body was later flown to Vallegrande to be displayed for photographers and buried in an unmarked grave there afterwards.
