{"id":37087,"date":"2013-08-07T07:33:29","date_gmt":"2013-08-07T14:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/?p=37087"},"modified":"2013-08-07T07:33:29","modified_gmt":"2013-08-07T14:33:29","slug":"commondreams-no-papers-no-fear-the-dream-9-make-a-radical-stand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/2013\/08\/07\/commondreams-no-papers-no-fear-the-dream-9-make-a-radical-stand\/","title":{"rendered":"CommonDreams: No Papers, No Fear: The \u2018Dream 9&#8242; Make a Radical Stand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nine young people are changing the way the country talks about immigration\u2014not from the floor of Congress or a campaign podium, but from a detention center.<\/p>\n<p>On July 22, the undocumented youth deliberately crossed the southern border into the United States, as a protest against immigration policy as well as a symbolic act of resistance to the deportation system that has loomed over them and their families since they first entered the country.<\/p>\n<p>Their carefully orchestrated protest placed the nine\u2014Claudia Amaro, Adriana Gil Diaz, Luis Leon, Maria Peniche, Ceferino Santiago, Mario Felix, Lulu Martinez, Marco Saavedra and Lizbeth Mateo\u2014directly on the frontline of the immigration reform debate. Hailing from different states and ranging in age from 19 to 37, they have languished in in Arizona\u2019s Eloy Detention Center for two weeks*. Six of the nine were in Mexico prior to the action, having either been deported or left the U.S. to avoid enforcement authorities.
