{"id":37294,"date":"2013-08-16T10:41:59","date_gmt":"2013-08-16T17:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/?p=37294"},"modified":"2013-08-16T10:41:59","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T17:41:59","slug":"manning-testifies-to-minimize-his-sentence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uprisingradio.org\/home\/2013\/08\/16\/manning-testifies-to-minimize-his-sentence\/","title":{"rendered":"Manning Testifies To Minimize His Sentence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><ul class=\"inline-playlist playlist\" title=\"\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/20130816Uprising\/2013_08_16_fuller.mp3\">Listen to this segment <\/a><\/li><\/ul><ul class=\"inline-playlist playlist\" title=\"\"><li><a href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/download\/20130816Uprising\/2013_08_16_uprising.mp3\">Listen to the entire program<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" align=right width=50% src=\"\/home\/graphics\/bradley_manning4.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>As the sentencing hearing phase of Bradley Manning\u2019s court martial wraps up, Manning\u2019s lawyers are pressing hard for a shorter sentence. <\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re doing so by putting Manning himself on the stand, who this week issued an apology saying, \u201cI\u2019m sorry that my actions hurt people and I am sorry that I hurt the United States.\u201d Manning added that he had been \u201cdealing with a lot of issues.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Defense claimed that Manning had struggled with a difficult childhood and with \u201cgender dysphoria,\u201d which may have led to his decision to leak information to Wikileaks. <\/p>\n<p>Wikileaks\u2019 co-founder Julian Assange explained Manning\u2019s apology in a statement saying, \u201cThe only currency this military court will take is Bradley Manning&#8217;s humiliation. <\/p>\n<p>In light of this, Mr. Manning&#8217;s forced decision to apologize to the US government in the hope of shaving a decade or more off his sentence must be regarded with compassion and understanding.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Manning, who faces 90 years in prison, will find out in the next few days how many years he is to be imprisoned for the 19 charges he was convicted of. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week a delegation of his supporters took over 100,000 signatures on a petition to the Nobel committee in Norway asking them to award him the Peace Prize.  <\/p>\n<p><em>GUEST: Nathan Fuller, member of the Bradley Manning Support Network<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Read more at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bradleymanning.org\">www.bradleymanning.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the sentencing hearing phase of Bradley Manning\u2019s court martial wraps up, Manning\u2019s lawyers are pressing hard for a shorter sentence.
