Forgotten by most Americans, the notorious US-run prison in Bagram, Afghanistan, was turned over to Afghan authorities but still holds dozens of non-Afghans, the majority of whom are Pakistani. Today\u2019s report, by the group, Justice Project Pakistan, aims to expose the devastating impact of imprisonment on the prisoners\u2019 families. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/newswire\/2013\/09\/04-0\">Click here<\/a> to read a press release of the report. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Army Private Chelsea Manning, who leaked thousands of secret US government documents to Wikileaks about, among other things, the US\u2019s conduct in Afghanistan, has formally petitioned the government for a Presidential pardon. Manning\u2019s lawyer, David Coombs, filed documents with the Justice Department yesterday. His petition includes a personal statement by Chelsea Manning: \u201cIf you deny my request for a pardon, I will serve my time knowing that sometimes you have to pay a heavy price to live in a free society.\u201d <em><a href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/usa\/manning-presidential-pardon-request-372\/\">Click here <\/a>to ready an RT report about the story. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>In New York, Mayor Bloomberg, determined to preserve the NYPD\u2019s right to disproportionately target people of color, has sued his City Council. Bloomberg is upset about a bill passed by the council to end the NYPD\u2019s \u201cStop and Frisk\u201d practice after a federal judge already ruled it unconstitutional.
