US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin clashed diplomatically over the war, with both nations blaming one another. Russia has been the strongest foreign supporter of Syrian government Bashar Al Assad, while the US only got militarily involved over the past few months, heading a coalition to target the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Some have accused the US of implicitly bolstering Assad. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Syrians have died in the war.
