White House Press Secretary Tony Snow dismissed the marker saying, &#8220;It&#8217;s a number,&#8221; White House press secretary Tony Snow told reporters at the White House on Thursday. The Pentagon provided no details on the nature of the 2,500th death. Nevertheless, reaching the marker shined a new spotlight on the continuing violence in Iraq.  Bush just returned from a surprise visit to Baghdad determined to turn the tide against the war at home.
