Carlos De Luna was executed in 1989 for the fatal stabbing of Wanda Lopez in Corpus Christi. The evidence calls into question De Luna\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s guilt and strongly suggests that the murder may have been the work of another man, Carlos Hernandez. Hernandez reportedly bragged to family and friends that De Luna was executed for a crime Hernandez himself had committed. The series, entitled, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Did One Man Die for Another Man\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Crime?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is the fourth instance since December 2004 that a major U.S. newspaper has brought into serious question the execution of a possibly innocent person. The Chicago Tribune\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s critical reporting on Illinois\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 death penalty system helped prompt a moratorium on executions in the state.
