The California Vehicle code classifies as a misdemeanor offense \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcusing a false or fictitious name or knowingly concealing any material fact in any document filed with the Department of Motor Vehicles.&#8217; However, the prosecutor in Reyes\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 case charged him with felony perjury. Since Santos Reyes had two previous felony \u00e2\u20ac\u0153strikes,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d against him, he was convicted of a third strike, and, under California&#8217;s Three Strikes law, is serving a twenty-six years to life prison sentence. Reyes\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 case has galvanized many activists to call for his release. After corresponding with Reyes, Green Party gubernatorial candidate Peter Camejo has organized a campaign to free him and overturn California\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s three strikes law. The National Latino Congreso has also recently issued a resolution calling on Governor Schwarzenegger to free Santos Reyes. The Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals has granted Santos Reyes a hearing to determine whether his offense warranted a three strikes conviction.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a rally and vigil to free Santos Reyes on Wednesday September 13th, at 9:30 am in front of the US District Court, 312 N.
