Tricky Dick had been on a supposed \u201cgood will,\u201d trip through Latin America when he found himself in an even trickier situation highlighting the region\u2019s ill will towards U.S. policies. That day, an angry crowd was able to attack the Nixon mobile smashing its windows as the VP was huddled over by Secret Service men. Dare I ask why they were angry? By that time, Nixon\u2019s higher up, President Eisenhower, helped overthrow a democratically elected government in Guatemala in 1954 and awarded the \u201cLegion of Merit,\u201d medal to the hated Venezuelan dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez that very same year. <\/p>\n<p>The scare Nixon got in Venezuela didn\u2019t change his tune, however. As President, his administration helped overthrow the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende in Chile in 1973.
