Acclaimed Chilean folkloric group, Inti Illimani, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a brand new album and an intercontinental tour that brings them to Pasadena this Saturday. Formed in 1967 by a group of engineering students at the Technical University of Santiago, Inti Illimani has captivated audiences\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 worldwide with its masterful blend of various Latin American musical genres. During the late Sixties, Inti Illimani quickly became one of the most prominent bands in the New Chilean Song Movement. Lending their musical abilities to the successful presidential campaign of Salvador Allende, the group members became political exiles after General Pinochet orchestrated a military coup against Allende\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s government in 1973. It wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t until 1990, that the group permanently resettled in their homeland. In recent years the has come to include many new and younger members. As a cross generational group, Inti Illimani\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s latest album, Peque\u00c3\u00b1o Mundo, pays homage to the group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s past while forging ahead with new musical innovations.
