On November 7th, voters in California will decide on a number of ballot propositions affecting the state. One ballot measure that Californians will be deciding is Proposition 85, the “Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minor’s Pregnancy Initiative.” If passed, proposition 85 would require physicians to notify a parent or legal guardian at least 48 hours before they perform an abortion on a minor under 18 years of age. California\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s voters rejected a similar initiative, proposition 73, in last year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fall elections by a vote of 53% to 47%. Recent polls show a tight race this year and if the proposition were to pass, California would become the 35th state to mandate parental notification in the case of underage abortions.
