Paul Sawyer, Chairperson, Media Democracy Legal Project<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Digital Infrastructure and Cable Competition Act of 2006,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d co-authored by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nu\u00c3\u00b1ez was signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger late last September. Receiving little media cover, AB 2987, as the act is also known, was unanimously passed by California\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s State Assembly and easily passed the State Senate. Critics of the Assembly Bill 2987, such as Media Alliance, feel that it threatens public, educational and government access channels.
