Teens Boycott Fast Food in their Communities

| the entire program

Citing a lack of nutritional information on fast food restaurant menus, teens from Baldwin Park and South Los Angeles are declaring a fast food boycott. Tomorrow the teens have organized a public demonstration, and invited their peers and community allies to join their action on what’s known as “Restaurant Row,” in South Los Angeles. From then, the boycott will continue through myspace.com and text messaging word-of-mouth campaigns until fast food chains post caloric counts on their menu boards. South Los Angeles, which has the highest concentration of fast food restaurants in the county, has already been subjected to a city council approved one-year moratorium on new outlets opening up in the area. The youth organizing comes at a time when a new report finds that nearly sixty percent of Californians are either overweight or obese. Released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Trust for America’s Health, the study echoes calls for menu labeling at restaurants to combat rising obesity rates. In fact, the California Assembly is currently considering SB 1420, which would do just that. If passed the bill would require restaurant chains of 15 outlets or more to post caloric and other nutritional information on menus statewide.

You seriously want Mcdonalds win. When your child starts mass eating those you would have problems with your child.

Tajah, what about the people who become addicted to the food because of all the sugar and fat. There are just so many people who can’t seem to stop eating this poor excuse for food…Every single soul on this Earth is worth fighting for. I work fast food and it’s filthy, demeaning, and it’s just not a wholesome way to get a mean or to make a living. People are getting sick of paying big $ in exchange for high blood pressure and a big cottage cheese ass. Do not defend McDonald’s, as they do not give a woot about your health or your family.

    Much Love and Respect

  4. […] We’d like to propose a fast food boycott for 30 days.  The reason – see how you feel and be aware of how much better you will feel.  It is very difficult to eat healthful foods at a fast food restaurant.  It is also terrible for your waistline and for your preventable disease management. Here is a group of teens who started a similar project last year: http://uprisingradio.org/home/?p=3012. […]
