The world’s worst industrial disaster in Bhopal, India, took place nearly 30 years ago when a factory operated by the American firm Union Carbide leaked lethal toxic gases killing tens of thousands of people.

But even decades later, the tragedy continues to unfold as residents are forced to drink contaminated water and second and third generations of children are born with disproportionately high rates of disabilities. Survivors of the accident received paltry amounts of compensation from Union Carbide.

Today even the Indian government claims that the case has been settled and the site has been cleaned up.

Now an award winning documentary called Bhopali brings to light the on-going struggle for justice being waged by Bhopal’s residents. Film maker Van Maximilian Carlson brings to light a story that is still very much in progress but has slipped out of global consciousness.

Prominently featured in the film is activist Sanjay Verma who was only a few months old when the factory accident happened and lost 7 members of his family.
