A Cup of Water Under My Bed: A Memoir by Daisy Hernandez

Daisy Hernandez is only 39 years old but she has already written a memoir. The Colombian-Cuban American writer has much to say about what it is like to grow up as a second-generation immigrant, straddling multiple worlds of language and culture.

In her memoir she explores the struggles she faces when she reveals to her Colombian mother and aunts that she is bisexual. And, how she navigates her way through college, jobs, journalism, and money.

Her memoir is entitled, “A Cup of Water Under My Bed.” The acclaimed Chicana writer Sandra Cisneros called Hernandez’s memoir, “A wonderful, breathtaking, necessary story… I bow deeply in admiration and gratitude.”

GUEST: Daisy Hernandez has written for Ms. Magazine and In These Times. For six years she was an editor at Colorlines.com. She’s the co-editor of the anthology Colonize This! Young Women of Color on Today’s Feminism.

Hernandez will be presenting her book at Book Soup on Saturday 09/13/2014 at 4:00 pm at Book Soup, 8818 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood CA.

    Dear Ms Hernandez,

I am so happy and feel lucky to have read part of your book and listened to you.

Definitely, you are among the giant writers of SouthAmerica!

Your observations in doing your internship were so amazing similar to my own experience while I did my own internship in Chicago! I was glued to the pages not to lose a word!

I can not wait to get the book.

    Best regards,
