Maria Hinojosa Speaks at Women and Media Conference

GUEST: Maria Hinojosa, Senior Correspondent for NOW, PBS

A global media-monitoring project in February 2006 revealed that women are vastly underrepresented in the media, both as news makers and subjects of the news. On Friday March 31st, more than 300 women from around the country attended the 3rd annual Women, Action, and Media conference at Cambridge. It was organized by the Center for New Words to help amplify women’s voices in the media. Among the speakers at the conference was Maria Hinojosa, award-winning journalist and author. She is the managing editor and host of Latino USA and a senior correspondent for NOW at PBS. Before joining NOW, Hinojosa was the urban affairs correspondent for CNN. Before that she was a correspondent for NPR, and also hosted Visiones, a public affairs talk show on WNBC-TV in New York. She has also served as a producer and researcher for CBS. Maria was invited as a keynote speaker at the Women, Action, and the Media conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
