“Jews of Conscience” Blockade Israeli Consulate in LA, Join Growing Global Movement

| the entire program

Israeli consulateAs the Israeli offensive in Gaza has entered its nineteenth day, the Palestinian Ministry of Health is reporting that nearly one-thousand lives have been lost with more than three hundred children among the dead. Israel’s military said it carried out its latest overnight strikes on sixty targets as reservists are being prepared for possible ground operations into the densely populated urban areas of the coastal strip. Meanwhile for the second time since the conflict began, Katyusha rockets landed in Northern Israel after being fired from Southern Lebanon sparking concerns that fighting could open on a second front. As the assault on Gaza continues, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon met with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt in urging for a ceasefire. The Foreign Minister of Germany is also publicly calling for an end to all hostilities. At the start of the Israeli offensive against Gaza, protests around the world immediately called for an end to the killing. From the West Bank to Egypt, to London, and even Chile, demonstrations have denounced Israeli military incursions. In the United States and Canada, Israeli consulates have become sites of protests as a group of eight Jewish women occupied the consulate in Toronto last week and four demonstrators were arrested in Boston after staging a sit-in at their consulate in Boston this past weekend.

GUESTS: Lisa Adler, member of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, participating at a sit-in in Los Angeles in front of the Israeli Consulate at 6380 Wilshire Blvd.
