Uprising Special: Robert Jensen on White Supremacy, Patriarchy, and Capitalism
The month of March marked an anniversary that barely went noticed. Forty years ago in March, an action on the campus of UC Berkeley called “Third World Strike,” led to the creation of ethnic studies programs to college campuses that many of us take for granted today. Four ethnic student groups and their allies led a campaign that lasted near two months to demand their university offer courses on race and racism, and non-white cultures. Today nearly all universities and colleges offer a plethora of ethnic studies classes; at UC Berkeley there are hundreds. While this event, and the past 40 years of ethnic studies education have done much to alleviate white supremacy in the US, problems are still systemic. While the US has a Black President for the first time, we hardly live in a post-racial world. According to our guest for the hour, University of Texas Journalism Professor and author Robert Jensen, the problems of racism, sexism, and classism remain dominant. Robert Jensen is the author of “Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Claim Our Humanity,” “The Heart of Whiteness: Confronting Race, Racism and White Privilege,” and “Getting Off: Pornography and the End of Masculinity.” He spoke recently in Southern California, at a talk organized by the USC School of Social Work.
Special thanks to Global Voices for Justice for recording this talk.

Thanks for airing this. Robert Jensen is one of the most articulate communicators on the three prime suspects of (perpetual)unquestioned privilege in the America. It would be a revolution in consciousness if the G-20 ‘gathering’ had these three issues topping their agenda this week.

the speech by Robert is amazing..tons of information and insights into social issues plagues of the so called “EARTH”
Mr. Jensen’s encouraged us to think our own selves, using logical and critical thinking manner. Not merely follow falsehood (mainstream media, policians)we have had many years. I recommend to people read his books/articlses and watch his documentaries.
Maybe if people talk more about “racism” Black people will magically start being born with larger brain sizes and the genetic potential for higher intelligence. But pesky Mother Nature keeps being racist to Black people by providing them with average smaller brain sizes and IQs around 15-30 points better. Oh well! Better put Mother Nature up on hate crime charges!
*15-30 points LOWER I mean. Sorry, I meant White people have higher IQs than Blacks by 15-30 IQ points. Although it should be noted this is also true for Asians and Jews who have very high IQs.
I heard about Robert Jensen in another interview where Mr. Jensen was mentioned for his ability to put forth cogent arguments about problems for humanity. I have been spending the day listening to Professor Jensen’s speeches. I placed a few of his speeches on my facebook. However, I have not heard him speak about the Occupy movement. I hope he will.
I was an avid follower of the Katheryn McKinnon and the late Andrea Dworkin decades ago. Therefore I am quite happy to see the work of man in this regard.
Please place my email on Professor Jensen’s email list.
Indeed “racial courses” are common in colleges today. Yet, still worthless!
