Could the Greens Win a Congressional Seat?

| the entire program

Byron De LearGUEST: Byron De Lear, Green Party Candidate for Congress, running for California’s 28th district congressional seat against Democrat Howard Berman

California Democrat Howard Berman representing the 28th district here in Southern California, is facing a tough re-election bid. This 12-term incumbent is not facing a Republican – he’s facing Green Party candidate Byron De Lear. De Lear has publicized a platform based on a withdrawal from Iraq, universal health care, raising the minimum wage, and other progressive issues. He claims that if he were to win next Tuesday he has pledged to vote for Democratic control of the House if the Democrats come up short by one to make a majority in the House. Democratic Representative Howard Berman has voted in step with the Republican Party on most issues regarding the war on Iraq. If Byron De Lear wins, he will become the first Green Party Congressional Representative in US history.

There will be a “V for Vote” Party on Saturday November 4th from 3-8 am hosted by the Los Angeles Greens at the Peace Center, 8124 W 3rd Street in Los Angeles.

The Independent Greens of Virgina 4th Congressional District candidate Col. Albert Burckhard is in a one on one race with an incumbent republican.. Col Burckhard is a Virginia Military Institute (VMI), a Vietnam Vet, a West Point linguist professor. After retiring from U. S. Army Burckhard taught school for 10 years, and now is chief of Carrolton Volunteer Fire Department. Burckhard is a local Virginia hero, beloved, and respected in his hometown and community. This could be Tuesday’s great victory.
