Schiff’s Healthcare Forum: The Sound and the Fury

healthcareHundreds of people, from all sides of the political spectrum showed up at the Alhambra Civic Center Library last night for a health care forum presented by Congressman Adam Schiff. The event featured several medical doctors and healthcare reform advocates including NBC4’s medical reporter, Dr. Bruce Hensel, and Jerry Flanagan, the Health Care Advocate at Consumer Watchdog. Because of the large crowd, the forum was moved from the library to the lawn outside where the crowd gathered. Supporters of health care reform carried signs decrying insurance industry profits and calling for a single payer system to be on the table. While, opponents carried signs denouncing what they called Obamacare, and comparing Obama to Hitler. The scene was similar to what played out in townhalls yesterday and the day before in Santa Cruz, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and many other states. President Barack Obama yesterday held his own townhall meeting in New Hampshire to counter conservative opposition to his reform proposals. About a thousand supporters and protesters gathered outside that meeting.

Uprising host Sonali Kolhatkar went to the health care forum in Alhambra last night and captured some of the speakers, and some of the voices, arguments, and screams of the audience. She asked people about their signs, where they were from, and why they were there.
