The second Boyle Heights Latina Independent Film Extravaganza will be held this weekend from December 8th to the 10th. Films will be screened in various categories such as feature length dramas, dramatic shorts, and documentaries. This year’s extravaganza features films submitted from diverse Latino communities such as Boyle Heights, Tucson, Houston and New York. The film festival’s mission is to celebrate Latinas, and through their work, challenge mainstream stereotypes. Prizes will be awarded in categories such as best director, best documentary, and best myth buster. Among the highlights at this year’s festival is “Buscando a Leti,” a film that deals with immigration from the point of view of those left behind in Mexico and “Lalo Guerrero: The Original Chicano,” a documentary about the late legendary singer and composer.
